ICYMI: Last week on The Dougherty Report in “Michael’s Corner” he presented an argument that is gaining traction among biblical scholars: “Are Christians Commanded to be Animal Activists?” Michael looks at Genesis 1:28 and we try to understand what the word “dominion” really means.
Does it mean that it’s okay to heard twenty-three thousand dolphins into “The Cove” keeping the best looking ones and slaughtering the rest every year? (so that a few large companies can profit)
Is that what God meant when he decreed that man should have dominion over the animals on land and in the sea?
Or, as many are coming to understand, does “dominion” actually means the practice of good stewardship and the humane treatment of animals in the same way that “God” would do?
