ICYMI: It’s happened again.
The Archdiocese of Newark was informed of allegations in August of 2015 that Father Michael Walters, parochial vicar at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, abused two minors, a boy and a girl, in the early 1980s while assigned to St. Cassian in Montclair.
One accuser said Walters fondled and kissed him repeatedly as a 12-year-old altar boy in 1982, and the other claimed Walters molested her when she was aged 13-14. Walters denied the accusations
Walters was not suspended until October of 2015, and he continues to deny the accusations.
The Dougherty Report spoke with Attorney Michael Garabedian who represents the alleged victims . As you’ll hear later in the interview there’s an even more disturbing aspect to these endless stream of child abuse and pedophile cases; the fact that the church, by it’s own Canonical law has been required to protect the offenders.
